Natchez!

What an exciting place to live!

The very name conjures up the exotic--the Natchez Indians, the romantic landscape with flowers all year, the fantastic antebellum mansions, the mix of people from all races and many lands, the Old South with a brand new twist and achievements, but most of all, the PEOPLE ! They are fantastic, welcoming, involved, active, hard working, intelligent, creative, and fun loving.

There is always something interesting to do in Natchez. Sports range from hunting the abundant wildlife; golfing; swimming; engaging in water sports on the nearby lakes and parks; enjoying team sports of every variety; participating in hot air ballooning, rodeos, runs, and bicycle races; to strolling along the magnificent bluffs high above the Mississippi River. The many festivals include Mardi Gras with krewes, balls, and parades; the award winning Natchez Literary and Cinema Festival; Spring and Fall Pilgrimages; Christmas in Natchez; a world class month long opera and music festival; the Blues Festival; special events at The Grand Village of the Natchez Indians, the Historic Natchez Cemetery, many neighborhoods, the Main Street Marketplace, and Jefferson College. There are groups to accommodate every interest, such as historical preservationists, artists, gardeners, animal lovers, business specialists, collectors of antiques, naturalists, literary groups, and musicians. The churches in Natchez provide a place to worship for many denominations. Education is important here. Schools include the Natchez-Adams County public schools, several private elementary and secondary schools, Copiah-Lincoln Community College, and Alcorn State University. There are two hospitals and a variety of medical specialists.

And then there is tourism! The antebellum mansions and buildings form the foundation for constant visits from people from all over the world. The architectural diversity includes buildings and homes dating prior to 1800; Georgian, Federal, Greek Revival, and Victorian homes; bungalow style homes; and modern construction, with examples of the South Louisiana vernacular homes. There are wonderful sites and museums celebrating Black History. The new Natchez Convention Center is a state of the art venue for meetings and gatherings. The great variety of bed and breakfast accommodations attracts many guests. The numerous antiques shops offer a tremendous selection of American and European antiques. There are walking tours of downtown Natchez and excursions along the beautiful Natchez Trace. And the food! What a privilege to live in a place with such a fabulous tradition of really good food! The Great River Road Food Festival is a showcase for great cooking, but the restaurants and markets provide wonderful food all year. There are places to enjoy a late night out and to celebrate special occasions.

Natchez has been designated as A Certified Retirement Community, was named One of America’s Dozen Distinctive Destinations by the National Trust, and has received the City Livability Award numerous times.

But, the best thing of all about Natchez is the PEOPLE ! Come join the excitement of living in Natchez, a place to love forever!
